EKO JWN HS
Afterschool program

Mondays through Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, at Summit High School

High school students collaborate with teachers to strengthen their academic skills based on individual needs during our 8-week sessions in the spring. Classes are developed from both student and teacher suggestions, ensuring engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

Students also participate in Saturday field trips, which in the past have included visits to New York City, museums, arboretums, and local first responder departments, among others.

EKO Spring into Art

Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey (VACNJ)

This creative art program invites 5th graders and middle school students to explore their artistic potential during 6 weeks in spring. Twelve students work in small groups with professional artist-teachers on hands-on projects that encourage creativity and self-expression. They experiment with different techniques, materials, and artistic themes, developing both skills and confidence along the way. Snacks are provided to keep our young artists energized and inspired.

EKO Girls 4 Girls Mentoring/tutoring Program

Tuesdays from 3:00  to 5:00 PM, at The Central Presbyterian Church in Summit

This program provides mentoring and tutoring for girls in 5th and 6th grade from October to June. Students meet once a week with high school mentors to discuss and read about topics such as habits (good and bad), feelings, friendship, self-esteem, and more. Afterward, each mentor works with one or two girls to provide homework support. One Wednesday a month the group joins other students for a community service project.

EKO Road Map
to College

Fridays from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Summit High School

A series of workshops designed to introduce Hispanic families to the Summit school system and guide them through the college preparation process. Local colleges and universities are invited to send a Spanish-speaking representative to participate in a small college fair at Summit High School. In the spring, the group will also visit one or two college campuses to explore academic opportunities firsthand.

Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, at LCJSMS 7th and 8th graders work with teachers to strengthen their academic skills (math and English) based on individual needs during our 8-week sessions in the spring.

Students also participate in Saturday field trips, which in the past have included visits to local museums, arboretums, and first responder departments, among others.

EKO Improv Workshops

Saturdays from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, at The Oak Center – Vivid Stage

A four-week series of improvisation comedy workshops for middle and high school students in partnership with Vivid Stage Repertory Theater. Professional acting instructors conduct these workshops at the Oakes Center in Summit, NJ. This program allowed teenagers to explore comedy improvisation and acting techniques for improv.

EKO ESL
Class for parents

Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at the YMCA in Summit

Our evening ESL class meets once a week, providing a small-group setting where parents practice conversational English and build skills for everyday life.

Is a seasoned media executive and creative leader with over 30 years of experience in television production and programming. A multi-award-winning Executive Producer and Director, he has led the creative, technical, and operational development of both live and recorded content for broadcast and digital platforms. With a strong editorial vision and deep understanding of the business side of media—including Marketing, Public Relations, and Affiliate Relations—Terry has played a key role in network launches, strategic revamps, and ongoing operations. Known for developing compelling, high-quality content that engages audiences and drives growth, he is also a respected mentor who has guided major on-air talent and cultivated new voices in the industry. Terry Baker brings valuable expertise in storytelling, leadership, and strategic thinking to support EKO’s mission and community impact.

Michael Gorman

Trustee

"I bridge education, business, and community to create meaningful learning opportunities"

Brings extensive experience in education, business leadership, and strategic management to EKO’s Board of Trustees. He has served as an ELL Aide at Summit Public High School, providing direct support to English Language Learners across multiple subject areas, and previously worked as a K–12 Substitute Teacher within the Summit Public Schools district. His professional background includes over two decades at American Express, where he held leadership roles directing operational risk management, business continuity planning, strategic development, and financial operations across global markets. In addition, he has entrepreneurial experience as a co-owner of real estate investment companies, managing property acquisition, renovation, and sales. He holds an MBA and a BA in Economics from Rutgers University. His combined expertise in education, finance, and community engagement strongly supports EKO’s mission to empower families and expand access to educational opportunities.
